Abstract The current work studies a swirling laminar viscous pipe flow with controllable swirl number and varying divergence cone angle. Such flows are widely used in various engineering applications. When certain level of is reached, phenomenon called vortex breakdown occurs, the characteristics which depend on intensity Reynolds number. However, addition to these two parameters, an important influence exerted by opening angle, often does not allow generalizing results obtained even slightly different angles. Since experimentally it quite difficult expensive change especially considering water as working fluid, this issue could be solved using CFD techniques. Using design study, 63 combinations S α considered. effect angle position bubble its properties demonstrated. It shown that there nonlinear relationship between onset minimum value axial velocity at axis depending cone.
